About LTS

The Scottish schools' news service is an online service for Scottish schools to aid the development of literacy and language (English and Gaelic) in young people aged 9 to 16 and to provide resources to facilitate interdisciplinary learning. The service will provide teachers and learners with professionally authored content and classroom activities designed to engage and inspire. Over time we will strive to create an archive of high quality digital educational resources to support literacy and other areas of the curriculum.

The news service will also support the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence and incorporate opportunities to link to the collaborative tools available in Glow, the national schools' intranet, which is freely available to all schools and related users in Scotland.

The service is being developed through a close working partnership of Learning and Teaching Scotland, tinopolisinteractive and the Herald & Times Group.

Learning and Teaching Scotland

Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) is the national body responsible for reviewing the curriculum, developing assessment to support learning and providing advice to the education system on the use of ICT to support learning and teaching. LTS provides advice to Scottish Ministers on all matters related to learning and teaching, the curriculum, assessment and ICT. In addition, LTS manages the provision of the national ICT infrastructure to support education, Glow, LTS websites and the local authority Interconnect. LTS works with partners to manage the effective provision of research and professional development.
